"Danborren Talka" has been presented in Libourne

The Libourne Fest’Arts festival presented yesterday the programme for this year’s edition, and very specially the show Danborren Talka (Drum Crash), which has been promoted by the Etxepare Basque Institute. This show has been created by the Basque company Deabru Beltzak and the French one Les Commandos Percu, and has been produced by the festivals Fest’Arts of Libourne and the Lekeitio Street Theater Festival. The Libourne festival, that will be held in August, will show  also works by three more Basque companies: En La Lona, Ertza and Organik.

The participants in the launch ceremony were the representatives of Lekeitio’s and Liboune’s festivals, Libourne representatives, members of the companies Deabru Beltzak and Les Commandos Percu, and Mari Jose Olaziregi, the director of the Promotion and Dissemination of the Basque Language of the Etxepare Basque Institute. She stressed the importance of the close relation between the Institute and the Fest’Arts, and expressed gratitude to its managers for their collaboration in the promotion of the Basque culture.  Garbitxu, member of Deabru Beltzak, thanked genuinely the Etxepare Basque Institute for its effort to support street theatre.

Since 2011, The Etxepare Institute has worked together with the Libourne Fest’Arts –with the help of the Office Artistique de la Region d’Aquitaine OARA and the support of the Institut Français- with the aim of launching the basque street theatre abroad. The Fest’Arts is a reference for Europe in this terms, so has been the result of this collaboration: the Frech festival has become a relevant showcase for the Basque productions.

In 2012, the basque Country became te guest country at the Libourne festival, and therefore programmed 12 performances of 3 different Basque companies; besides, the Basque Institute had also the chance to arrange within the festival a meeting for Basque companies with internacional producers. The new network proved to be working soon: in 2013 Fest’Arts and the Lekeitio Street Theatre Festival coproduced the show Naufrago, based on texts by Joseba Sarrionaindia and performed by the company Dantzaz, which was a big success.
